Getting StartedGetting Started

Making a garment for WOW® can be a daunting but highly rewarding challenge. In this section, we offer some general information to make this process as easy and as enjoyable as possible for Designers.

Important Entry Information

Design teams must consist of a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 3 designers.

HEIGHT/WIDTH RESTRICTIONS:

Garments must be:

  • Less than 1½ metres wide at floor level

Before you start, consider how you will package and freight your garment and how it may be hung or stored backstage. Garments that can be easily separated into their component parts are simpler to freight and to store.

Insurance: It is the designer’s responsibility to insure their property from the time of its dispatch through to its ultimate return.

Conditions of entry:

  • Entries that have been accepted in any other competition in New Zealand or have appeared in any media publications in New Zealand will not be accepted. The only exception to this rule is with tertiary students who have exhibited their garment as part of their curriculum. These students may be eligible but need to apply to WOW® in the first instance.
  • The garment has to be an original concept designed and created by the designer/s.

Entry Submission/ Return:

  • All packaging is the responsibility of the designer. New Zealand designers have freighting support from our freighting partner ‘Mainfreight’. Refer to the WOW Entry Kit or www.worldofwearableart.com for conditions. International designers please refer to the ‘International Insert’.
  • Ensure that your garment is packaged carefully and is easily transportable. Do not send in heavy packaging such as wooden boxes or old wardrobes.
  • Boxes must have a return address clearly marked. Please note your garment may not return in the same box, therefore please make sure we have clear documentation of your return address.
  • Photographs and relevant details on how the garment is to be worn and how to put it on MUST be included. Also include a list of the total number of pieces. Please click HERE for further information on the required paperwork including a template you can use as well as an example of a 2009 Designer's folder.
  • Entries not selected for the 2010 Awards will be delivered to you from our premises by 1 December 2010. WOW® will contact the designer to arrange this. Unselected works not returned by 31 December 2010 will become the property of WOW® Wardrobe Department.

Garment Retention:

WOW® reserves the right to:

  • Retain garments for a period of 12 months following the Awards in activities that relate to the promotion of WOW®, World of WearableArt & Collectable Cars Museum and your entry.
  • Take photographs of garments and to publish these, with acknowledgment, wherever possible, in publications that relate to WOW®.
  • All film, broadcasting, internet and any related rights, which it may at its discretion, elect to use for publicity or any other purpose.
  • Have first option to purchase any entry for inclusion in the historic collection.
